Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary
Our Vision & Mission
We envision the day when there are no longer dogs and cats struggling to survive on the streets and in the alleys of our community.
Until that day, our commitment – our mission – is to save and improve the lives of as many of these poor animals as we can.
Every single day, we fight tirelessly for animal welfare – our primary goal is to spay/neuter as many animals as possible to prevent even more unfortunate souls from being born into a life of homelessness.
As a sanctuary, we are dedicated not only to providing shelter and care for the street animals we rescue but also for family pets in need. In rural Sangkhlaburi, the nearest veterinary services are hours away and many local people lack the resources to care for their sick animals. We are here to help.
Our clinic relies entirely on donations. Some local people help out if they can after their animals are treated, but many cannot afford to contribute. We bear the full cost of these treatments every time.
We also engage in outreach work within the community, visiting temples, markets and even the jungle to treat sick and injured animals and provide food to those in need. Our outreach efforts include educating the public to reduce fear of and aggression towards animals. We also provide relief by regularly vaccinating street animals against rabies and other prevalent diseases. Your support is crucial to us. If you can afford to donate, please help fund our work. And check in here often for updates and join us on social media to stay current with everything we do!
Where Are We?
A compassionate refuge for abandoned and mistreated street dogs and cats, the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary is nestled along the Burmese border in remote Western Thailand.
With the nearest veterinarian a challenging 4-hour drive away, our free veterinary clinic stands as a beacon of hope – the literal difference between life and death – for many neglected animals in dire need.
What We Do
Constructed from the ground up by dedicated volunteers, our modern sanctuary serves the community in myriad ways, from rescue operations to providing essential urgent FREE veterinary care and critical vaccinations and conduct regular spay/neuter clinics.
We provide a home for life to some animals and diligently seek forever adoptive families around the world for those who can travel.
We Need Your Help!
We are 100% donation based.
Our lifesaving work is made possible solely through the generosity of animal-loving friends like you.
In Thailand, donations stretch a long way, and we take pride in our ability (and it’s our promise to you) to make the most efficient use of every donation entrusted to us so the maximum number of dogs receive the help they deserve.

Before & After The Upgrade
We are SO proud of our sanctuary and the animals love it! Sangkhlaburi is a rural town in Kanchanaburi Province, and the nearest veterinary clinic is a s solid half-day drive away. Many of the local residents simply do not have the money or means to take sick animals there. We provide around-the clock veterinary services for free!
The site where our sanctuary now proudly stands and serves the community was in a derelict state when we first visited – but we immediately saw the potential. The need was critical, and we knew that the corps of volunteers that support us could transform the land and buildings into a wonderful facility. They removed rubbish (even a huge dilapidated old wooden fishing boat), cleaned, painted, planted a playground, built wonderful dog houses and a modern operating room, volunteer quarters and so much more.
Take a tour. We’re certain you’ll love it as much as our dogs do!
